Orange County's Office Market Shows Signs of a Comeback: After several challenging years for commercial real estate, Orange County's office market posted positive net absorption during the second quarter of 2026, meaning more office space was occupied than vacated. The Airport Area led the improvement, adding more than 175,000 square feet of occupied space. With limited new office construction underway, improving demand and constrained future supply are encouraging signs for one of Orange County's most important commercial markets.
More High End Housing Coming to Newport Beach: A new residential phase is moving forward at Uptown Newport Village after Irvine based Shopoff Realty sold a fully entitled one acre parcel to Shea Homes. The site is part of the larger 25 acre redevelopment near Jamboree Road and will bring additional for sale housing to an area steadily transforming into a walkable residential community. The project is another example of the value of infill development in Newport Beach, where opportunities for significant new housing remain limited.
Santa Ana Could Add Automated Speed Cameras: Santa Ana is seeking state approval to join California's automated speed safety pilot program, which currently allows seven cities to use cameras to identify vehicles traveling above posted speed limits. If approved, Santa Ana could install 12 cameras across six high traffic or high collision locations beginning in 2027. Supporters point to early results from Oakland and San Francisco, where excessive speeding at camera locations has reportedly fallen by more than 70%. Camera locations, funding and privacy policies would still require City Council approval before the program could launch.
Back to School Season Returns to Orange County: Summer is quickly winding down as students across Orange County begin returning to the classroom for the 2026 to 27 school year. The first local districts welcomed students back this week, with schools throughout South Orange County following throughout August. For everyone else, it also means the return of busier morning commutes, active school zones and after school traffic. Here's to a great school year for Orange County's students, teachers and families.
