The OC Fair Opens Today for a 23 Day Run: The Orange County Fair returns to Costa Mesa today and runs through August 16, bringing carnival rides, food, live entertainment, competitions, animals, and exhibits to the OC Fair and Event Center. This year's theme is Your Adventure Awaits. New for 2026 are an El Pachuco Zoot Suit fashion show and a lowrider exhibit, joining returning draws like the Joker 360 and the demolition derby series. The fair is open Wednesday through Sunday, closed Mondays and Tuesdays, running until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Irvine's Great Park Enters Its Biggest Build Phase: The 1,347 acre Great Park in Irvine is midway through a 1.1 billion dollar transformation that will make it one of the largest municipal parks in the country, surpassing both Balboa Park and Central Park in size. Plans include a 22 acre lake system with cascading water and a boathouse restaurant, a botanical garden with themed spaces and miles of new trails, and a 20 court pickleball complex. A 12 acre retail and dining hub called The Canopy is slated to begin opening late this year, and city planners are working toward a permanent 10,000 seat amphitheater in the Heart of the Park.
A $1 Billion Hospital Campus Nears Completion in Irvine: Hoag's Sun Family Campus in Irvine is adding six new buildings, 155 inpatient beds, eleven operating rooms, and 120,000 square feet of ambulatory facilities, funded in part by a 100 million dollar commitment from philanthropists Diana and David Sun. The 130,000 square foot Surgical Pavilion, soon the largest structure on campus, will feature advanced robotic technology built for complex inpatient procedures. The expanded campus is set to open in September.
